Intramural vessels and endothelial cells in the walls of sclerosed retinal arteries.

چکیده

ARTERIO-SCLEROTIC vessels are clinically and histologically important. I have studied retinal material, especially the tissue of fatty change for a great number of years. The chemical nature of the fat is still practically unknown. I have now studied sclerosed retinal arteries systematically. First I examined the unstained tissue, then I used the technique of retina in bulk. Later I combined the bulk technique with staining, mainly with haematoxylin, Weigert, or sudan red. It seems to be important that the first vasa vasorum shown in the retina of the human eye were in the walls of these sclerosed retinal arteries. (Loew-enstein, 1947 a, b; 1948 a, b.) In the literature, intramural vessels in the ascending aorta and in the coronary artery have been described by Robert (1929), who found a discrete capillary system in the intima of the aorta. Paterson (1936) mentioned vascularization of coronary arteries in association with arterio-sclerosis. It is most important that Paterson never discovered intramural vessels in normal arteries. As far as I understand him, he did not find any newly formed vessels in the arteries either of humans or of normal animals. Winternitz and otthers (1938), produced a perfect specimen demnonstrating the vasa vasorum in sclerosed coronary arteries. The tissue of the arteries was cleared and injected with black ink, and showed the presence of a typical network of vasa vasorum ill the rich vascular system of the intima. Of course, it is much easier to work on these huge arteries than on our small retinal vessels. But I frequently found intramural vessels in the retina, especiallyN as our technique improved. The fine sclerosed vessels came out very clearly, especially with reduced light and frequent change of thet iris diaphiragmi. We know, of course, that cases of arterio-sclerosis appear clinically as a ramified rete mirabile. Ballantyne (1949) has shown typical retinal and preretinal vessels by ophthalmoscopic examination. In our histological material we demonstrated new vessels, the " vasa vasorum". This material was mostly arterio-

Study of Pulsatile Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Through Abdominal Aorta and Renal Arteries Incorporating Fluid- Structure Interaction

Background: The interaction between the blood and the vessel wall is of great clinical interest in studying cardiovascular diseases, the major causes of death in developed countries. Objective: To understand the effects of incorporating fluid-structure interaction into the simulation of blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT...

Anatomical Variations of Circle of Willis in 57 Human Brains

Purpose: The circle of willis is responsible for blood supply of brain, which may suffer from anatomical variations. These disturbances can lead to aneurysm or even arterial rupture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical structure of the cerebral arteries forming the circle of willis in adult cadavers. Also, cerebral versus non- cerebral versus non-cerebral arterial walls wer...

تأثیر یک دوره تمرین مقاومتی بر فشار خون و نیتریک‌اکساید در زنان سالمند

Objectives Endothelial function is an important factor in the assessment of atherosclerosis, lipid deposition in the inner walls of the arteries, high blood pressure, and heart failure. Vascular endothelial cells play an important role in regulating vascular activities by producing substances such as nitric oxide to stimulate vessels. Methods & Materials The current study was attempted to find...

بررسی ارتباط اتصالات میواندوتلیال، میان سلول های اندوتلیال و نظم مارپیچی سلولهای عضلانی صاف جدار شرایین توزیع کننده (عضلانی)

Background and Purpose: Conventionally, the architecture of the artery wall is based upon the close-packed smooth muscle cells, endothelial and adventitial cells in both sides of internal elastic lamina (IEL). However, the adventitia and endothelium are now viewed as key players in vascular growth and repair. Recent work raises fundamental questions about the cellular heterogeneity of arterie...

CORRELATION BE TWEEN ENDOTHELIAL INJURY AND CEREBRAL VASOSPASM FOLLOWING A DOUBLE SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE IN THE RAT

While a wide array of pathological changes occur in cerebral arteries following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the most consistent is endothelial damage. Since the endothelium normally modulates reflexes that influence vascular tone, any damage to it may represent a significant contributor to cerebral vasospasm following SAH. This experimental study investigates the correlation between end...
